EL-74 MN assault rifle replica (Gen. 2)

E&L Airsoft is a new quality on the airsoft market. The manufacturer has set himself the task of creating replicas with the highest possible quality of materials and perfect fitting, resembling the real steels as close as possible and went in this direction as far as he could - by starting production at the same factory, which produced a firearm!

Therefore E&L's products are made with use of steel, hand finished wood components and high-quality composite and definitely can compete with the best brands on the market - also in price. The quality and performance allow it to be both a beautiful wall decoration as well as very effective skirmish gun. Also, some parts of the exterior are the same as in the original weapon and come off the same production line!

Externally, the maximum possible number of elements was made as a 1:1 copy of the original, fully according to military specifications. This means you can exchange elements between the replica and the real steel! This applies to items such as the front bed, gas pipe, iron sights and cleaning rod. Hardly any other manufacturer offers that.

Steel components have been oxidized, which makes them look even more realistic. Also, the attrition process which takes place over time makes oxidized surfaces look much better than it happens by painted or varnished guns.

Also in terms of weight  all was made to ensure realism. The replica is heavy, and a full steel outer barrel ensures proper balance. A notable feature is certainly the possibility of a partial field-stripping of the replica, like it takes place with the a real steel - with no tools required. Everything is based on pins and levers. The manufacturer paid attention to even of the smallest of details to make their product as close a resemblence to the real steel as possible.

Both the foregrip and gas pipe cap have been made of black polymer.

The same material was also used for making the buttstock, ending with a metal pad. The buttstock is of a "full" type and foldable onto the left side of the replica.

The left side of the receiver is equipped with a dovetail mount, suitable for the dedicated optical sights (including the original, designed for a firearm), as well as mounts allowing transition to RIS standard used as base for mounting of virtually any type of optics.

Taken straight from the box, the replica is secured in a thick, technical oil that safeguards the product from humidity and possible contamination during transport. A mixture of oil, steel and lacquered wood emits a unique smell, well-known to people in constant contact with firearms.

The replica's battery is located under the lid of the receiver. The cover is mounted on a latch, which allows its rapid removal and replacement of the power source at any time.

The insides of the product are also remarkable. E&L engineers have taken the best solutions on the market and added their own. The pneumatic system consists of a set of silent piston head and a cylinder, which increases the system’s longevity through better amortization. The spring slide has bearings and the piston gear has a bigger inhibitor. It gives the BB more time to be inserted in the chamber, which is of great importance in the case of high rate of fire configurations.

Both of the mentioned solutions result in smoother operation, greater ROF and smaller energy consumption. High accuracy and focus is guaranteed by an equipped internal, precision barrel with a diameter of 6,04 mm.

What parts we can find inside the E&L Gen.2?

- new type, reinforced gearbox frame, based on 9mm ball bearings
- QSR ball bearing spring quide (Quick Spring Release)
- full steel gear set, made on CNC
- one-piece steel cylinder, made on CNC

Lenght [mm]:

The length of the replca is measured between the two most distant points of each other. Different models have several of these values, because of its design allows to increase or decrease it length (eg.  folding stock or extended flash hider).

Inner barrel length [mm]:
Weight [g]:

This is a value that includes the weight of the replica, magazine and other accessories that are include in set without a battery, charger, cleaning rod, etc., etc.

Magazine type:
Mid-Cap magazine
Magazine capacity [pcs]:

Hop-Up system is used for overclocking bb during the shot (putting it in rotation), through which, it extends its flight path. Acting laws of physics make that bb lift up, while the gravitational force take it down. Appropriate adjustment of Hop-Up, will compensate for these two factors, which result in long and straight flight for longer distance and be greater focus shot (to improve accuracy).

Yes, adjustable
Blow Back:

Blow back is a simulation system of the cocking lever - it imitates the work of it as the equivalent sharp. This system raises the realism and adds a lot more experience during shooting.

Battery included:

NiCd rechargeable battery is characterized by high efficiency current-carrying capacity, but there are disruptive effect on memory. Should be unloaded and loaded in the full cycle, ie, it is recommended to fully discharge, and after unloading must charge the battery immediately without leaving it for a long time in a discharged state.
NiMH batteries have a higher self-discharge over time and shorten the life - on the other hand, they earn about 30% more capacity.

Velocity [FPS]:

It is the spped of bb, while its leaving the innerbarrel of replica. This speed is measured in FPS (Feet Per Second).

1 FPS = 0,3 m/s

1 J = 99 m/s

1 J = 326,7 FPS

This is my second AK74 AEG - my first being the SRC AKS74UN (3rd gen). So this is all I have to compare it with. I got this gun after sending back for a refund the G&G GSS Vintorez. A gun which was too electrically complicated for it's own good, it failed three times on me. I can't fault Gunfire on their service on this and their no quibble refund. I decided after reading several reviews to get the E&L because it was simple and well built - less to go wrong. Don't think I'm going to be disappointed. I had it down graded by Gunfire down to 320fps for legal requirements and received in the box the test from them and quality control from E&L. It also came with Mag, Oiler, and the AK Tool Cleaning/Tool kit which goes in the stock (which is pain to get out by the way). BUILD: This is a well built gun. I've handled a few real steel firearms - SLR, Sterling, SMG, GPMG, MP5 and AK47. This is probably as close as an AEG can get to the real thing unless you get a Real Sword. It is heavy, strongly built and good quality. The only rattle I found was from the flash hider, had the same problem with my SRC - easily fixed with a bit of PTFE plumbers tape. Everything is tight and it comes apart like the real thing. The only thing I noticed was the top handguard is integrated with the gas tube. This may cause problems if you plan to use an after market RIS/RAS rail system. There should be no problem with the bottom guard though which is standard fittings. MAGAZINES: I put this top of the list as there are a lot of questions about this on line. The mag that came with it is a mid-cap pretty much the same quality as a CYMA. It fits in with a bit of push and snap the first time like the stock mag, but after that it's fine. MY CYMA AK74 150 midcaps (C74) fitted perfectly with that same push and snap. But my metal versions(C96) of this were too tight. As CYMA mags are pretty cheap that's good to know if you are buying this gun, but stay away from the metal AK74 and 47 ones. HOP UP/BARREL: Some complaints about the hop up on line, but I seem to have no problem with mine. The adjusting lever is a bit loose but it wasn't hit by the ejector cover as it slid back into place. I had this problem with my old SRC all the time.I see no problems with it, as the gun has little vibration. Hop is definitely one you want to fine tune to get it on it's hot spot. Too much hop and it's anti-aircraft gun and it will drop the FPS. Barrel is 6.03 making the accuracy of it pretty good! It didn't come with a plastic cleaning rod, but it does come with the metal under barrel AK one. I wouldn't recommend using this or the tools for it as you could easily scratch the barrel. GEARBOX/MOTOR: I haven't take this gun apart, so I can't comment on the internals too much. But it is one of the quietest guns I've owned. My old SRC gearbox is still going after 4 years was noisier than this out of the box. This suggests to me shimming, and AOE is good and the gearbox is tight and free from air leaks. BATTERY: Another issue which you find on line about his gun. To be blunt using NIMH batteries would be a waste! AK stick 8.4 and 9.6 will fit no problems but your wasting this guns potential. I'm using 7.4v 1200mah lipos which fit perfectly(15mmx16mmx116mm), but the next size up of the same make (1500mah) are just to big to fit. For this reason I'd take note of Gunfires recommendations regarding batteries for this gun. It shouldn't need a mosfet for 7.4v, but probably would need one fitted for 11.1v (if you can find one which will fit of course). FIRING: I fired 300 rounds (E&L and CYMA Mag) with out any problems in single and auto straigh out of the box. It didn't miss a shot, just needed some fine tweeking with the hop up. CONCLUSION: This is not a beginners gone, and certainly for the serious player who wants reliability - you learn over the years you get what you play for, and with this gun you definitely get a good deal for the price. Considering the quality of this gun, I would think this is easily going to last as long as my SRC which this month hit 4 years with out a shop service. It is well built, tough but heavy. I'm pleased I didn't get the version with the wooden stock and handguard! This could easily act in a DMR role with the 6.03 barrel, but it's pretty much a good all purpose gun. It has barrel length but the folding stock gives you good options for CQB. There is always the E&L AK104/105 versions if you are CQB/FIBUA orientated. It has good quality parts, internally and externally out or the box, and excellent performance. If feeling inclined it will be make great upgrade platform when you get bored with it. If this is the quality you find with the all the E&L Gen 2 AK's (which all use the same basic Gearbox, Receiver and parts) I would recommend any of them, particularly if you are now hooked on airsoft and planning to move up from you're battered old budget AK. You're getting good value for money!

EL-74 MN assault rifle replica (Gen. 2)
Great externals and average internals, perfect base for a very good build. I was so impressed with the rifle that I decided to buy another E&L AK. Here is my fully upgraded AK74MN. However I will keep my second AK as stock as possible, only replacing what needs to be replaced: - SHS solid bushings (strongly recommended) - Guarder SP110 spring (400FPS; note that stock spring is very short and vibrates when decompressing, resulting in funny sound) - Guarder clear bucking (stock one is rubber for higher FPS) - SHS cylinder + cylinder head (optional) - SHS piston head (optional) - SHS long type nozzle with o-ring (strongly recommended) V3 Gearbox shell is reinforced on all four corners around cylinder area which is also radiused for extra durability. This thing will not break even under heavy springs. Piston looks good, spring guide is metal with plastic sleeve, no need to replace it with 400FPS spring also the gears are ok for that setup. Hopup chamber is Prowin clone and one of the best designs available. I also see no problem in running stock compression parts other than nozzle which really needs better sealing. I am sure I will get a third E&L soon and it probably won't be my last one.

Nice externals! You have to shimm this baby first in order to work ok. And change the air nozzle. And you are good to go.
